For Etsy Sellers of Edible Goods

Etsy listing photo size for food sellers: 2000px on the shortest side, and a thumbnail that survives the crop.

Etsy recommends at least 2000px on the shortest side, then crops your first photo into a thumbnail. FoodShot restyles your own phone photos of your bakes, jams and blends to survive both.

Listing Photos

Every listing photo past Etsy's 2000px recommendation, from the phone photo you already took

Upload the photo you took at the kitchen counter, pick a style, and about ninety seconds later the same bake comes back on a clean surface in proper light, large enough for Etsy's recommended 2000px on the shortest side and sharp enough for the zoom. The work is done on your real photo of your real product. FoodShot never sends a photographer, never shoots anything and never invents a flavour you do not make.

Builder Mode

Framing that keeps the product inside the thumbnail crop

Etsy crops your first photo differently in different places, so the safe composition is the product in the centre with clean margins on every side. Builder Mode lets you set that framing, the surface and the light yourself: centre the round cookie, lay the long bark slab or fudge box on the diagonal, and leave air around the jar. One source photo, framed once, survives the square tile and the wider search crop.

My Styles

Thirty flavours shot over eight months, one look

Save the look once and every new photo inherits it. The raspberry marshmallow shot in February and the pumpkin spice added in October come out on the same surface, under the same light, at the same size, so your shop page reads as one kitchen instead of a year of different afternoons. When a new flavour launches, apply the saved style and it slots straight into the range.

Perfect For

Every Etsy maker whose listing sells something you can eat

This page is for edible listings only: bakes, chocolate, candy, preserves, sauces and spice. FoodShot restyles food and drink photos, not candles, prints or jewellery.

🧁

Home Bakers Shipping Brownies and Bakes

Brownies, blondies and loaf cakes sell on the crumb, and the crumb is what a dim kitchen photo hides. Show the cut face, a clean hero and the packed box, all in one consistent light.

🍪

Cookie Artists and Cookie Gift Sets

Round cookies survive the thumbnail crop easily; a set of twelve in a box does not. Frame the set with margins, add a scale shot, and buyers stop asking how big one cookie is.

🍫

Chocolatiers, Bark and Candy Makers

Chocolate turns grey under warm kitchen bulbs and toffee loses its shine. Restyled in controlled light, the gloss, the snap and the colour of every topping read the way they do in person.

🍓

Jam, Preserve and Hot-Sauce Makers

A jar photographed on the counter carries the window, the ceiling and you in its reflection. One clean highlight per jar, repeated across every flavour, makes six preserves look like one line.

🌶️

Spice Blenders and Seasoning Shops

A brown blend in a jar looks like every other brown blend. Style it beside the whole spices that went into it, keep the light identical across the range, and the flavour differences become visible.

🎁

Gift Box and Treat Hamper Assemblers

Gift buyers decide on the ribbon and the unboxing. Photograph the wrapped box, the open box and the contents from the same phone shots, and every seasonal box matches the year-round one.

Etsy recommends listing photos at least 2000px on the shortest side, and the shortest side is the number that matters. A 3000 x 2250 landscape (4:3) image and a 2000 x 2000 square both clear it; Etsy advises making the first photo landscape or square. Size matters more for food than for most things sold on Etsy because food sells on texture: the crackle on a brownie, the seeds in a jam, the snap on a shard of bark. Those details are the first thing a small or soft upload loses, and buyers zoom in on exactly those parts. Use JPG for photos of food and keep each file reasonably light so it uploads quickly; the 72 PPI figure you may see quoted has no effect on how the image looks on screen. FoodShot restyles the phone photo you already have of your own product and exports it comfortably above 2000px on the shortest side. It does not invent the product or the shot.

Your first listing photo becomes the thumbnail, and Etsy crops it differently depending on where it appears: square on Shop Home and in many grids, a wider rectangle in others. You can adjust the thumbnail crop when you edit a listing, but the reliable fix is to compose for both at once. Keep the product inside the centre square of a 4:3 frame, with clean margins on every side, and nothing important touching an edge. Round things like cookies and jars survive easily. Long and wide things are the problem: a slab of chocolate bark, a loaf cake, an open box of twelve cookies. Lay them on the diagonal or pull back so they sit inside that central square. Also check the thumbnail on your phone, because most Etsy buyers browse there and the crop is smaller than you expect. FoodShot's Builder Mode lets you set exactly that framing on the phone photo you already took, so one image works for every crop.

Etsy currently allows up to 20 photos and 2 short videos per listing. You do not need all twenty, but an edible listing needs more than a candle does, because buyers cannot smell, taste or hold what arrives in the post. These are the ten shots worth filling first. One: a clean hero composed for the thumbnail crop. Two: a cross-section showing the filling or crumb. Three: a scale shot beside something everyone knows, like a coffee mug. Four: a texture close-up that survives the zoom. Five: the full flavour range in one consistent frame. Six: ingredients styled beside the finished jar or bake. Seven: gift presentation with the ribbon or twine. Eight: packaging as the buyer receives it. Nine: the shipping box, padded and packed. Ten: a clear photo of your ingredient and allergen label. FoodShot restyles your own photos for the first nine; the label photo should stay exactly as printed so buyers can read it.

You do not reshoot them. The problem in most Etsy food shops is not the phone, it is that each flavour was photographed on the day it launched: a winter afternoon under a warm kitchen bulb, a summer morning by the window, a different chopping board every time. Line those listings up on your shop page and every difference shows at once, so the range looks dim and patched together beside competitors with a consistent look. The fix is to give every photo the same surface, the same light and the same framing after the fact. FoodShot restyles each of your existing phone photos to one look, so the February raspberry and the October pumpkin spice come out on the same surface with the same shadow direction. Save that look in My Styles and every future flavour inherits it, which is what stops each new listing restarting the problem. It cannot add a flavour you never photographed; it only works on real photos of things you actually make.

No to all three. FoodShot never sends a photographer, never books a studio, never prints labels or packaging, and never fabricates a cookie, a jar or a box. It is a restyling tool: you photograph your own product on your own phone at your own counter, upload the photo, pick a style, and about ninety seconds later you get that same product on a clean surface in proper light, framed for Etsy's thumbnail crop. The bake in the output is the bake in your photo, with its real shape, real filling and real colour, which matters on Etsy, where buyers expect what arrives to match the listing. If the brownie in your photo is cracked, the output shows a well-lit cracked brownie, so photograph a good one. It works on food and drink only: if your shop also sells tea towels or candles beside the jam, those are outside what FoodShot does.

Yes, and it is the shot almost every food seller skips. A buyer ordering something edible from a stranger has two worries a jewellery buyer does not: will it arrive in one piece, and will it look good enough to give. The shipping box photo answers the first. Show the box opened the way it arrives, with the padding, the sealed bags and the jar held upright, and the questions about broken cookies and leaking jam stop before they are asked. The packaging photo answers the second. Show the tin, the ribboned box or the cellophane bag exactly as the buyer unwraps it, because many Etsy food orders are gifts and the buyer never sees the product before the recipient does. Photograph both on the same surface and in the same light as the product shots so they read as part of one listing. FoodShot restyles those packing-bench photos the same way it restyles the food, from the phone photos you already have.

Your thumbnail is the listing. Make the crop work for the cookie.
